Oil painting is surely the most used technique for the majority of paintings due to its volume and brilliance. Further more, this technique satisfies the artist's needs since it is presented in a form of malleable paste which gives room to the artist to work and to express her
message. But beyond to oil painting, we can observe that almost all paintings are composed from several techniques, or better from several materials. Also some materials may seem strange because of some aspects, but eventually turn out to have the required and adequate
characteristics.
Amongst the various materials used, in many paintings one will notice the use of metal sheets attached by small nails on wood tablets. Sometimes these surfaces are artistically painted with varnish or oil painting. Also to note that most of the times these materials are recovered from domestic waste, like drinking cans or similar objects. Other materials used are sand, cloth, paper, putty etc... combined altogether with oil painting and other artistic techniques and materials like coloured newspaper and pastels. Also the preparation for the supporting base which sometimes turns out to be unusual, is prepared by making use of materials which will contribute to give more volume to the work of art, like sand, which is often
used.
Every work of art may make use of various materials and techniques as need be. This is never a coincidence, a lot of planning is involed in order to expreme the desired message.
